For an art """contest""" on Hermitcraft. I need to submit it under a specific license, and since the art portal automatically applies some other license, I cannot post it on Newgrounds. What a shame.

Truthfully I only signed up for the profile customisation, but it's nice to have another place to archive my art. Now my Vaporeon site skin can finally be realised as my profile background over there.

I've already made 2 blog posts about this thing but whatever. My Newgrounds site skin changing extension is now in a state where I'm happy to call it finished and "release" it (download requirements listed further down). I've been working on it on and off for over a year now and I've put a lot of effort into making it genuinely usable for everyone.

This extension/userscript lets you change the site skin to whatever you want. You can choose to change the background image, logo colours, background opacity and more. There's also custom presets, which can be set to switch out over periods of time or shared with other people.

Here's what the settings page looks like with some custom settings applied:

You can reach this page by pressing the palette icon in the top right on the notification bar.

This script is still actively being worked on too! I'm currently adding header customisation and fixing some other minor bugs. I also have other features planned down the line too.

Where is the download link? There isn't one, or not a public one at least.

Site skin changing is due to become a supporter only feature at some point in the future. As it's meant to be paid for, I have mixed feelings about making this a free download. So despite being given permission from Tom, I will be gatekeeping the link.

I will still give out download links though. If you make a site skin, I will give you the latest version of the script. Your skill level doesn't matter, just actually put some time and effort into it. If you'd like I can also include the skin you made as a built-in option for others to choose too.

If you're not an artist, message me anyway, we can figure something out. And if you have already made a site skin in the past or are a very long-time supporter, also message me and I will probably just give you a download link.

Here's all the productive stuff I've been doing in my absence.

Art

I haven't had the same motivation to draw anything since starting work, I'm still doodling on occasion but never really working on anything more "finished".

That being said, here's something I have done:

Not sure if/when I'll finish it. Knowing me I'll decide I actually dislike one of the designs and scrap the whole thing (my money is on sylveon)

Wanted Minigame (Potentially a pixel art collab)

If you follow my twitter you might've seen I was working on a Psychonauts minigame. Newgrounds won't let me embed twitter posts so here's a link to a short video showcase. It's just a recreation of the Wanted minigame from the Mario DS games.

I originally planned on making this a small Psychonauts themed minigame, but I thought I could maybe open it up as a collab instead? Everyone could draw a little pixel art head of a character and we could have a Newgrounds Wanted game.

I'll get the game in a more finished state before I open it up to anyone else. Right now there's no score, timer, or any decent level generation. I will make another blog post if/when I officially announce it.

Site Skin Customizer Script

Still working on the previously announced site skin customization script. I'm still holding the belief that I should gatekeep the script to people who meet my arbritary requirements listed here. If anyone has any better ideas for distribution do let me know.

I've been able to get auto-updates and a few other features going which is great. I'd consider the script to be mostly done, but there's a few more things I want to add still. Mainly revolving around the background dropdown selector. I want it to automatically update when a new site skin comes out, and also add the ability to add your own images to it as well.

A few days ago someone asked me if I could make a script that removes ratings/engagement from posts. Most other social media sites will have this extension made already, but as Newgrounds is much smaller this sort of thing doesn't exist yet.

Having this installed will remove any references to star rating, favourite count, views, reactions and comment count. Trophies, awards and reviews (without the star score) will still be visible.

Happy Pico Day! I have something rather exciting to share this year.

Since august I have been working on a userscript/extension that lets you customize the Newgrounds site skin. This lets you change the background, text colours, and loads more.

Here's an example screenshot. This is using some art drawn by Metraberryy, with a purple theme and transparent background.

You can upload your own backgrounds or choose from a premade selection of previously used site skins and community made ones!

I've released my first game for pixel day!!! The game is "Wizard & Warrior" and you can play it here.

It's a 2 player local coop game, so you'll need someone else to download parsec or sit next to you. That being said I did add a solo option, because most people probably won't be bothered to get someone else to play and would disregard the game otherwise.

Enjoy this crappy thumbnail I made at 2am last night. I would've made some more art for this but ran out of time. Maybe in the future I will draw these 2 characters again.

2023 was a quite a good year for me both irl and art wise.

Although I doubt my skills really improved over this year, I feel a lot more confident drawing now which is nice. I feel a lot of this confidence boost has come from reaching 100 fans (thanks again btw!!!) and my art blowing up over on twitter. I had a few posts get loads of likes and stuff on there which is great. I try not to focus on likes too much, it's not a great mindset, but having my art reach that many people is really cool and I hope I can keep reaching similar numbers next year.

I also pumped loads more art this year too, I nearly doubled my post count over here lol. New years resolution is to get at least 1 post out a month. We'll see how that goes though, I won't force myself to post anything if I don't want to.

I actually interacted with people this year too. I made a few posts in the art forum's OC thread, participated in a couple collabs and actually spoke to a few people. Aspergers makes interacting with new people quite tough for me, but I think a pretty good job this year. Also, all the meetups being in the US is gives real FOMO, can some extrovert from the UK organise something?

I've made an art post with some sketches and other pieces from this year that didn't get posted into my main art gallery. Take a look:

Outside of art, this year has still been pretty good. I released my game on steam called BYLE, it's roguelike and is COMPLETELY FREE! I made it as my final project over uni. Speaking of, I also graduated this year! I am now games programming certified. If only half of the games industry WASN'T laid off this year, might make job searching a little easier for me 🙃.

Overall a solid 9/10 year, hopefully 2024 is just as kind.

The gogos collab that I was in gave me the last little push I needed to reach 100 fans!!! Holy shit!!!!!!

100 fans is rookie numbers for some but to me this is crazy, it is a milestone I never thought I would reach with my art.

If 10 year old me could see this now he'd be so hyped. Unfortunately that little sperg isn't here so my 22 year old self being hyped will have to do.
